Rancho Santa Margarita, CA – Cox Communications has named the finalists in its first Cox Conservation Champions program and opened online voting to the public at Cox-Cares.org. First-, second- and third-place winners in the adult and youth categories will each receive $2,500, $1,000 and $500, respectively, to donate to a local environmental non-profit organization of their choice, within the service area of Orange County, Palos Verdes and Santa Barbara.
Finalists in the youth category include:

Finalists in the adult category include:

- Chris Lung – Tustin, CA

The public can visit http://www.cox-cares.org to learn more about the finalists and vote. Individuals are permitted to vote once for one candidate in each category. Voting ends on April 15, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Winners will be announced on Earth Day 2011.
Other environmentally-focused programs in place at Cox in Orange County include:
- Stationary fuel cells for clean, onsite electricity generation
- Photovoltaic solar technology to minimize electricity demand
- Lighting retrofit to minimize electricity use
- Water-conservation fixtures to reduce water use
- Recycling to keep waste out of local landfills
- Gas-saving permanent air filters in Cox vehicles to improve mileage
- Reduced vehicle idle time to save gasoline
- Employee vanpool program to reduce commuting miles
