Mobile social messaging application textPlus rallied its texting groups last week to raise $10,000 for charity. The fundraising success was part of the popular app's highly anticipated Groups4Good charity fundraising campaign, which donated $1 to charity for every textPlus group or Community created by users during March 11 -15, up to 10,000 groups. The campaign raised its target $10,000 in a matter of hours.
textPlus has nearly 8 million monthly active users and sends 34 million messages a day. Parent company GOGII tapped textPlus's large and active user base to become the first brand to use mobile social messaging as a vehicle for good. The three charities that benefited this month from the Groups4Good campaign were EnoughIsEnough, A Good Idea and LIVESTRONG. Each month going forward, GOGII, the makers of textPlus, will continue to support more good causes, donating up to $1,000 to a different charity.
"We're excited that our active user base mobilized to make Groups4Good such a success. Our users are enthusiastic, but more than that, they are a real community. They have proven that here by engaging with one another in mobile messaging groups to make a positive difference," said Drew Olanoff, GOGII's Director of Community.
"At LIVESTRONG, we work to serve people fighting cancer and empower communities to take action against the world's leading cause of death," said Doug Ulman, CEO and President of LIVESTRONG. "Social media is an incredibly powerful tool for our cause, and we're thrilled that textPlus is taking the initiative to harness the power of its groups to leave behind a meaningful legacy - by raising awareness about critical issues, as well as by making contributions to a variety of charities."
Launched in 2009, textPlus has seen tremendous growth and activity over the past year, leading the way for mobile social messaging. Apple recently listed textPlus as the iTunes App Store's 36th most popular free app of all time.
