Nurses Lounge Begins National Roll-Out : Brings Nursing Schools into the Network

owned subsidiary, Nurses Lounge, has completed a successful proof of concept of its online professional network for nurses in the Dallas area and a broader Texas market.

Based on these results, Nurses Lounge believes that its network is configured to solve many of the communication challenges faced by nurse organizations such as nursing schools and nurse associations by providing a more efficient and professional means for them to communicate news and information to their constituency, including students, faculty, alumni, and members. As such, Nurses Lounge is expanding its efforts across the U.S. with a focus on growing the number of nursing schools and local chapters of nurse associations that use Nurses Lounge’s free online service.

In order to maintain the professionalism of the network, only professional organizations such as nursing schools, associations and employers can create interactive lounges (groups) in the Nurses Lounge network. This is unlike social-oriented networks that allow the creation of almost any type of group for any purpose.

The creation of an interactive lounge on Nurses Lounge allows each organization to control the output of its news and information. A lounge also allows the organization’s members to comment and discuss the information posted as well as network on a professional basis without the fear of crossing social/work boundaries which has become an issue with the growth of social-oriented networks.
Over 500 Groups Representing Nursing Schools Created

Since January 2011, Nurses Lounge has created lounges for more than 500 of the approximately 700 nursing schools in the United States that offer a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (“BSN”) degree. Nurses Lounge has created these lounges for no charge and is now in the process of working with these schools to show the advantages of having a Lounge in a network created exclusively for nurse professionals.
The University of Texas at Arlington College of Nursing is an example of the professional acceptance of the Nurses Lounge. This is the largest school in the state of Texas that offers a BSN degree and to date the school has more than 750 nursing students, faculty and alumni participating in the school’s Lounge and this number is still growing.

"This free site is an efficient way to communicate news, national reports, and career information to our students, faculty, alumni and the nursing profession at large. It is exciting that we have plans to engage our alumni community of over 9,700 UTA nurses to be connected to one another and to the college," explains Dean Elizabeth Poster of UTA about the Nurses Lounge.

"As was the case with Dean Poster, we have found that once a school representative such as a dean or director sees a short demonstration of the Nurses Lounge network and understands all the benefits a lounge brings to their school, students and nurse professionals, generally, there is an almost immediate acceptance of our network." Added Timothy Armes, CEO of Nurses Lounge.

History of Nurses Lounge

Nurses Lounge grew out of a nine year old nurse publication and web portal. Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Nurses Lounge began operations in Atlanta, Georgia, as a Nurse web portal in the 1990's. Timothy Armes, founder of, acquired the portal site in 2002 and moved the operation to Dallas where Mr. Armes also launched a successful direct mail companion magazine reporting on the local nursing profession. The magazine is still published today, but not owned by the Company, and is paid for mainly by nurse recruitment classified ads from major nurse employers. The website was enhanced several times to become a more social-oriented network for nurses, and was re-launched in mid-2009 as a professional network for nurses and designed as a more efficient way for nurse organizations to communicate not only to their members but to the nursing profession at large.
