Micello Launches First Ever Set of Indoor Map APIs

The general availability of indoor maps expected to catalyze the indoor-location services ecosystem.

Micello, Inc., the leading global provider of indoor maps, today announced the availability of the industry's first Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) that provide web and mobile developers the ability to include maps of venues in their own applications. Many developers today are building solutions for shopping malls, airports, conferences, hospitals and college campuses, but are constrained by the lack of availability of map and geo-data. Micello's new APIs provide a comprehensive set of mapping, routing, and search services that allow developers mash-up their application content with indoor maps.

Location-based services are increasingly moving indoors. Hundreds of applications on various mobile application stores provide compelling value propositions for consumers. These applications allow people to do comparison shopping, find their friends in the neighborhood, or get the latest flight details at an airport. The indoors is considered the final frontier, the last uncharted mile in location-based services.

"Ever since we launched our reference application - Micello Indoor Maps - on iOS and Android devices, we have been overwhelmed with requests to make the maps platform available to other companies. Developers will be pleased to see what we have to offer - a flexible and very rich set of APIs that will allow companies to take full advantage of our vector-based maps, interactive objects and innovative services. All the information required to access the map APIs is now available on micello.com," said Ankit Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Micello.

"The APIs are designed to parallel the traditional maps services, but have some key differences. Anyone familiar with map APIs from Google(TM) or Microsoft(TM) will find it very easy to work with our platform. We will constantly be adding new functionality through our APIs," said David Sutter, PhD, CTO of Micello. "The Micello Maps Platform has been in private beta for the last 90 days. Companies of all sizes that operate in shopping malls, airports, hospitals, and schools have given us very valuable feedback. We've iterated the code and are now very pleased to allow everyone use it," he added.

Maps, especially those of high value locations like airports, conferences and shopping malls, enable a whole new class of applications for consumers designed to provide them with valuable and timely information. At the CTIA Wireless Conference last week, the industry's flagship event, Micello's indoor map of the conference floor helped thousands of people arrange meeting points, and find and connect with the exhibitors.

Micello is building the worlds largest collection of indoor maps and releases new maps on a regular basis. Micello Indoor Maps on iOS and Android application is available for free in their respective application stores. Visitors to Singapore can also download Go! Shopping, for free, on iOS and Android and access the top 50 shopping malls of Singapore.
