Breach of contract, wrongful termination and violation of the labor code cited.

A lawsuit on behalf of Anthony Chavez, son of late civil rights and labor leader, Cesar Chavez and brother of Paul F. Chavez has been filed by the Law offices of Joseph M. Lovretovich in Superior Court of Kern County, California. (#5-1500-CV-273196)

The lawsuit stems from the firing of Anthony Chavez (plaintiff) from his 32 years of work and service and his removal from the position of Executive Vice-President of the National Farm Workers Service Center, Inc. by his brother, Paul F. Chavez, President of Cesar E. Chavez Foundation/National Farm Workers Service Center Inc. and the Radio Campesina Network.

On the 18th anniversary of their father’s death, and amidst all the surrounding celebrations of Cesar Chavez’ 84th birthday, Anthony Chavez says: “My brother, Paul, and the members of the Board of Directors of the Foundation have recognized my contribution to my father’s work in the past, but now, after my 32 years of service, their refusal to negotiate a settlement for me and my hardworking family is an insult to our father’s legacy of preventing the exploitation of workers. I was left with no other alternative but to fight for my family, my Dad’s values and what is right.”
