Alaska Communications will celebrate its newest Kenai retail store, located at 10128 Kenai Spur Road, with a grand opening event Saturday, April 2 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. To mark the event, the company will hold a fundraiser benefiting Kenai Central and Soldotna Skyview high school athletics.

Twenty percent of all sales at the Kenai store on April 2 will benefit Kenai Central High School’s athletic department. The company will hold a second fundraiser on Saturday, April 9; 20 percent of all sales on April 9 will benefit Skyview High School in Soldotna. The school that raises the most money will receive an additional $500 from Alaska Communications.

“We are thrilled to be opening a beautiful, brand-new store in Kenai,” said Marla Thompson, Alaska Communications vice president of consumer sales and service. “It represents our ongoing commitment to provide our customers with a best-in-class shopping experience. But, we wanted to take that a step further and celebrate by supporting our local community and schools. Our sales team in Kenai had a great idea to get the athletic departments involved and the event just took off from there.”

The 2,647-square-foot store features the company’s new, signature architecture and a hands-on, interactive experience for customers.

The new store features Mobile Broadband test stations complete with the latest Android devices, BlackBerry devices, other industry-leading smartphones and texting phones, iPads and will soon have the company’s new line-up of tablets like the Motorola Xoom.

It also features an area dedicated to serving small and medium business customers, a videoconferencing showcase where customers can experience live videoconferencing demonstrations and an area for customers to gather for popular smartphone expert nights and other customer events.

This is the company’s third location on the Kenai Peninsula. The store is open Monday through Friday 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Saturday through Sunday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. It replaces the temporary store that was located at 10672 Kenai Spur Highway, which closed March 23.
