Windsurf Publishing LLC’s author Maureen Mihailescu has created another book for children that focuses on social sharing, social interactions, and playing. Ms. Mihailescu acknowledges that many children today have communication and behavioral challenges that interfere with their ability to cooperate and interact with other children. She posits that children can also be very shy socially and have anxieties during new social situations. That is why she created “Social Sharing Is All Around Us.” Her belief is that this book can be beneficial to those children who find it difficult to join in with others, understand other children’s feelings, and interact in age appropriate ways. She feels that children can also be reluctant to socialize with other children because of the unknown as well. And she stated that sometimes children who start school for the first time could be nervous. Her feeling is that having a book about other children and activities that children share in can help the socially anxious or those who are social novices.

“Social Sharing Is All Around Us” contains twenty-five beautiful color photographs of children who are interacting socially. A few of the photographs specifically show children cooperating together on projects like doing a drawing together, making a sand castle together, and researching a book together in a library. These are everyday interactions for school and play social success. Along with these photographs Maureen Mihailescu describes how the children are sharing, how the children may be feeling, and how they are enjoying activities together. Maureen Mihailescu has a master’s in psychology and a child with special needs for whom social skills haven’t come easily. She knows that some children really need explicit social learning. She feels this book provides reflective visual and verbal descriptions of typical social and sharing activities that can improve social understanding. This is especially true she feels for children with social anxieties and special needs such as autism and asperger disorders. She also states that many children on the autism spectrum need to learn a lot about friendly interactions with other children and the ways they socialize and play cooperatively. Maureen Mihailescu additionally stated that cooperation skills and knowing how to share and connect with other children is something not to be taken for granted for many children who need help in those areas of development.

“Social Sharing Is All Around Us” is now available on Amazon worldwide, Barnes and Noble online, and other international booksellers. It is not the only book that Maureen Mihailescu has put together related to social skills. She has also created books specifically for children on the autism spectrum to help improve their communication and social skills. She has also created a book about airplane travel to reduce those anxieties. Her books use a lot of photography to help visual learners understand social situations that most people with typically developing children never need experience. Some are geared for social communication practice as well as social understanding.

“Social Sharing Is All Around Us” is available in paperback and hardcover editions. It is a great book for preschools, elementary schools, special schools, and parents of children with special needs or social concerns.
