“I wanted to distribute an app that all potentially impaired drivers with an Android phone could use,” he said. “Most people don’t know how important counting and timing can be with a DUI test”.

Lone Wolfe Mobile today announced the release of DUI kNOw! Time, an Android smart phone app that encourages potentially impaired drivers not to operate vehicles after drinking alcohol.
DUI kNOw! Time, which is compatible with Android platforms 1.5 and higher, administers a thirty second counting and timing test. Similar to part of the one-leg stand, a standard field sobriety test, DUI kNOw! Time asks a user to estimate the passage of thirty seconds of time by counting aloud. A user must estimate the passage of thirty seconds of time within a range of four seconds to earn a passing score. More than four seconds of difference will prompt a message that says the test has not been passed and driving should be reconsidered.
The correct estimate of the passage of thirty seconds of time is influenced by alcohol consumption or drug use. Alcohol will slow down the body’s internal clock and cause a person under the influence of alcohol to believe that time is passing slower than it really is. Alternatively, certain drugs can speed up a person’s internal clock and cause a person under the influence of these drugs to believe that time is passing faster than it really is. For example, a person under the influence of alcohol may count to thirty and think thirty seconds have passed, when actually forty seconds have passed. This can be an important part of the one-leg stand standard field sobriety test that is administered by law enforcement.
DUI kNOw! Time features graphical images about drinking and driving. If a passing score is earned, fireworks images are displayed. If a failing score is earned, the images displayed pertain to the injury, legal problems, financial costs, property damage and even death that can result from driving under the influence of alcohol. In 2009, over 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Also in 2009 according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drugs other than alcohol were involved in about 18% of motor vehicle driver deaths. DUI kNOw! Time is a quick, inexpensive and easy way to find out if driving might be hazardous or illegal.
DUI kNOw! Time is free and available for download at the Android Market. DUI kNOw! Time will soon be available at the Amazon Appstore for Android.
DUI kNOw! Time offers a useful tool for anybody who has had a drink and is considering driving, Lone Wolfe Mobile owner and DUI kNOw! Time creator Lewis Wolfe said. “I wanted to distribute an app that all potentially impaired drivers with an Android phone could use,” he said. “Most people don’t know how important counting and timing can be with a DUI test.”
By keeping impaired motorists from driving, DUI kNOw! Time provides potentially life-saving aid, Wolfe said.
“It’s a win for the person who drinks,” he said. “It’s a win for the people who drive. It’s a win for society. Everybody wins with DUI kNOw! Time. Since the app is free, does not use any of the new Android features, and works on most of the older Android phones, there should not be any reason that a potentially impaired driver with an Android phone should not use it”.
