Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) April 5, 2011
PLATO Learning and SER-Jobs for Progress National, Inc. are pleased to announce a cooperative effort in which SER National will use PLATO online curriculum to enhance the basic skills of unemployed and underemployed individuals through the SER Coaching to Care program. SER National primarily assists Hispanic and other historically underserved populations in developing job skills.
SER (an acronym for Service, Employment, and Redevelopment which also means “to be” in Spanish), developed Coaching to Care as a result of a grant from the Department of Labor. SER and the Department of Labor have been collaborating on job and career training programs for over 45 years. The program is administered through 10 SER affiliate offices across the country. Career coaches in these offices will provide high-touch, high-tech assistance to some 2,500 individuals to prepare them for high demand occupations in careers such as health care, green manufacturing and other industries. The coaches will utilize PLATO Learning courses to augment their support efforts and enhance learners’ basic skills, such as reading, writing, math, composition, and literacy.
“It’s very exciting for us to be partnering with SER to make a real impact on the lives of so many people,” said Jamie Candee, vice president of product & marketing for PLATO Learning. “We are great admirers of the work of SER in creating new opportunities for underserved communities. We are gratified by its confidence in PLATO and our innovative curriculum, and we are privileged to be part of its efforts.”
The PLATO Learning solution for SER will be implemented by a dedicated team of education and technical professionals from PLATO, who will also provide ongoing support and professional development services.
