Jessica James, Author of the Award-winning Civil War Novel Shades of Gray, Will Launch Her New Book, Noble Cause, in Historic Charleston on the 150th Anniversary of the War. James Will Travel to South Carolina April 8-12 to Kick Off a Year-long Tour That Will Include Attending Re-enactments and Sesquicentennial Events, As Well As "Riding With the Cavalry" This Summer.

An author who grew up with the battlefields of Gettysburg as her stomping grounds will release her new novel, Noble Cause: A Novel of Love and War, in Charleston, S.C., from April 8-12, the place where the Civil War began exactly 150 years ago.

Jessica James, who won numerous national awards with her first Civil War novel Shades of Gray, will travel to Charleston, S.C., to kick off a book tour that will include battle re-enactments and sesquicentennial events throughout the year. An avid horsewoman, she will even "ride with the cavalry," in a re-enactment this summer.

"There is no place more romantic or more historic than Charleston, and no place I'd rather be to launch my book tour and commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the war,” James said. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience history in the making.”

The official release date for Noble Cause is April 12, the actual date the war began in Charleston 150 years ago with the bombardment of Fort Sumter.

Described as an emotional and moving story, Noble Cause has been praised by historians for its historical accuracy, and by romance readers for the classic love story woven into the pages.

“With the 150th anniversary of the war upon us, I hope that Noble Cause can inspire those with only a casual interest in the Civil War to want to learn more about this decisive period in our nation’s history,” James said. “Historical fiction can serve as a bridge to those who don’t want to learn about battlefield tactics or troop numbers, but rather want to be entertained while being subtly educated about the war and its causes.”

Readers will discover the fine line between friends and enemies in this epic love story that captures the emotions and fears of the country as war sweeps the land. The novel exposes the private side of the men and women who took part in the desperate conflict as they struggle with fulfilling their duty to God and country while remaining true to their own hearts and minds.

James’ first novel, Shades of Gray, hit the No. 1 spot on Amazon’s bestseller list in its category, temporarily overtaking the classic, Gone with the Wind. It was praised by the Historical Novel Society, Foreword Magazine and Romantic Times magazine for its appeal in both the historical fiction and romance genres.

James will appear at Boone Hall Farms, 2521 Highway 17 N, Mt. Pleasant, S.C., on April 8, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and at Beaufort Bookstore, 2129 Boundary St., Beaufort, S.C., on April 9, from 1-3 p.m., among other stops in the historic Charleston area.
