With social media allowing us ways to interact with our residents that we didn’t have previously, we have been very successful in having transparency at an unmatched level.

Juggle.com, an online encyclopedia and reference resource, recently recognized HuntsvilleAl.gov as a Top Local Government Website Award recipient for its outstanding online advocacy of local businesses and community.

This year’s recipients applied innovative web technology in order to provide citizens with greater access to local businesses and community initiatives. HuntsvilleAl.gov is one of several Local Government portals helping to support and strengthen the local community.

According to Trent Willis, Chief of Staff and Communications in Huntsville’s Office of the Mayor, “One of the biggest goals of Mayor Tommy Battle’s administration is to have a government that is open and accessible. HuntsvilleAL.gov is a perfect example of reaching that goal because it’s easy to navigate, it’s visually appealing and it presents a wealth of information. Moreover, with social media allowing us ways to interact with our residents that we didn’t have previously, we have been very successful in having transparency at an unmatched level.”
The awards editor at Juggle.com hand-selected this year’s Top Local Government Award recipients by evaluating a variety of site features and functionality, including: usability, up-to-date content, access to e-government services, community resources and technological innovation. The features and functionality offered to users enabled them to surpass other websites in their class.

“Citizen feedback was the only factor in HuntsvilleAL.gov’s redesign. Everything, from how the information was organized and presented to the visual aesthetic of the site was based on easy of use, navigation and making the most requested information the easiest to find,” noted Willis.

Award recipients receive a feature page on Juggle.com that includes an interview with one of the individuals responsible for maintaining or managing each website. Belleville, Illinois-based Juggle.com is an online encyclopedia and reference resource featuring facts, articles, images, biographies, and statistics covering thousands of popular topics.
