American School & University, in conjunction with Healthy Schools Campaign (HSC) and the Green Cleaning Network, have released the winners of the Green Cleaning Award for Schools and Universities.
"These schools and school districts are making Green cleaning a priority, creating a healthier environment for students, teachers and staff," says Rochelle Davis, HSC President and CEO.
The Green Cleaning Awards for Schools and Universities originated in 2007 to recognize education institutions for their healthy and sustainable approaches to cleaning to protect health without harming the environment.
Many of the winning institutions reached their current level of success with Green cleaning through the partnership and support of leading manufacturers in the professional cleaning industry.
The awards criteria, among other things, require schools to use certified Green products and equipment that reduce chemical, water and energy use.
As part of the awards announcement, some leading manufacturers in the professional cleaning industry were applauded for their contribution to Green and healthy cleaning and because their products are being used by some of the honored schools.
Two of these organizations include the following:
· Kaivac for the No-Touch Cleaning System (R). Award winning schools and school districts using the Kaivac system are located in Columbia, MO; Green Chimneys, NY; Newark, NJ; the University of Georgia and the University of Washington.
· Enviro-Solutions, a leading manufacturer of Green cleaning chemicals. The honored school using carpet and floor care chemicals manufactured by Enviro-Solution is Purdue University in Indiana.
"Our hats go out to these schools and school districts," says Tom Morrison, vice president of marketing for Kaivac. "With all the economic constraints they are currently struggling with, they are still making the health of their staff and students a top priority."
Adds Mike Sawchuck, vice president of Enviro-Solutions, "each year, more schools get on the Green cleaning bandwagon. All of them should be honored for their focus on health and the environment."
According to Davis, in 2010 there was a 50 percent increase in the number of schools entering the competition. Applications came from all sections of the country.
