Part of a larger project to expand the Federation’s electronic media reach, Jfedcommunity.org is a result of a Jewish Federations of North America grant to help the Jacksonville Federation build community, educate the public about Federation’s work and retain the next generation of donors.

Jfedcommunity.org is available any time of day or night for members to express their ideas and questions regarding the Jewish people and Israel.

The Jewish Federation of Jacksonville launched its own new social network site this week, jfedcommunity.org, becoming one of the first federations in North America to do so. A pilot online community, it is an inviting place for members to discuss issues of interest to the Jewish world.

By focusing on the future, Federation strives to further engage younger people. “We have to be proactive,” said Andrea Mail, chair of the Federation’s Electronic Media Task Force. “Social media is how younger members of our community interact.”

Some have asked why Federation would start a new social network site when Facebook is available. “Federation’s the place where all of our members can go for their Jewish connection and outlet,” Mail said. “Jfedcommunity.org is available any time of day or night for members to express their ideas and questions regarding the Jewish people and Israel. It’s an innovative tool that with time should enable Federation to more effectively reach a wider audience.”

The Federation plans to use Jfedcommunity.org to:

  •     Build relationships and collaboration among the Jewish community locally, nationally and globally.
  •     Find ways to help the Federation and its mission.
  •     Encourage members to share ideas, thoughts and opinions.
  •     Keep members of the online Jewish community informed on news and events.
  •      Share blog posts, pictures, and videos.

To build the online community as well as make the best use of grant funds, Federation has engaged with consultant Interchanges of Jacksonville. An interactive marketing agency, Interchanges has begun grant work which includes the Federation website redesign and optimizing their website to attract more viewers. According to the Federation’s electronic media plan, future enhancements include linking to other social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube. Interchanges will also help optimize the Federation’s email marketing and distribution plan.
