Today's Real-Life 'Cinderella Story' in Indie Music: Side FX? (who's that?) Jumps on Billboard's Top 40

Indie artist 'Side FX' defeats all odds and lands on Billboard's Top 40 without any label support.

For a second-career, indie singer-songwriter less than three years into her music career, this anonymous quote says it all: “If to dance is to dream, then you make dreams come true.” Kim Cameron's new song, “A Dance,” has entered the coveted Top 40 on the national Radio and Records, Nelson's Billboard chart – a feat no other self-funded indie musician has achieved.

Cameron and her band Side FX, who are based in the non-musical capital of the world, Washington, D.C., recently began releasing singles from their third album, the Blond Side, and posted these results this week: Their song “A Dance” is at #39 on the R&R Top 40 (as of April 6). Also, their new song “Paradise” is now charting on Mediabase at #32 in the competitive Adult Contemporary market.

Defeating all odds is an understatement for this band, which is bank-rolled by no independent or major label. The band decided to simply invest in themselves. They knew their hometown was not the “break-out” kind, and so they booked and supported their own tour last year to 19 states. They wrote and published two albums, with a third on the way, and have managed their own career all along.

This barometer of success resulted from sheer talent, hard work, persistence, business acumen, a deep desire of Cameron's to revive story-telling in popular music, and an unwavering belief in achieving the near-impossible. No stranger to achieving the impossible, Cameron climbed her way to executive level in the IT corporate world, and then decided, after 20 years, enough was enough. The catalyst: A young family member's fight for his life, which made her re-evaluate her life's work. She jettisoned the successful corporate career to follow her true calling. And today, she's clearly a self-made rising star.

Among her assets are her innovative, talented band, Side FX, and her producer Richie Cannata (Billy Joel, many others). She performs in some of the hottest venues in New York City and elsewhere.

One reviewer wrote recently: “Side FX has brought the sound of the '80s pop scene to the new millennium with a new sound that blows others out of the water... Do I hear Grammys?”

This red-hot, alt/rock/pop indie band is now booking interviews and engagements in top media as well as new concert engagements across the country.
