Denville, NJ (PRWEB) April 8, 2011
The Inland Marine Underwriters Association (IMUA) announced the agenda for its new parallel “Intro-Track” at the 2011 Annual Meeting, slated for Chicago’s Drake Hotel May 15-17, 2011. Kevin O’Brien, IMUA’s President & CEO, said, “We are extremely pleased to expand our Annual Meeting agenda to include a series of seminars and workshops running parallel to our educational sessions geared to those new to, or less experienced in, commercial inland marine insurance. The inauguration of the Intro-Track is the direct result of the many requests by IMUA member companies for more opportunities for their less experienced personnel to participate in our Annual Meeting. It is an excellent way to introduce them to IMUA’s diverse educational offerings.”
The Intro-Track commences with an Overview of Inland Marine Insurance. This session focuses on the unique nature of Inland Marine insurance including exploration of the various lines of business and how insurance companies and state insurance departments often have differing approaches to handling Inland Marine Insurance. The session will also cover the evolution of the Nationwide Marine Definition. It will be led by Robert Guevara, Vice President of AAIS.
The Basics of Builder’s Risk, another key session on the Intro-Track, will focus on understanding the builder’s risk coverage i.e. what it is, who needs it and how it works. Presented by James Drewry, Senior Vice President, Munich Re and past IMUA Chairman, this workshop will examine coverage and forms noting the difference between builder’s risk and installation floaters, as well as the types of property covered under each.
Mary Ann Corcoran of the Hanover Insurance Group will lead the next session on Understanding Contractor’s Equipment. The session will focus on the basic elements of contractor’s equipment i.e. types of operations typically requiring coverage, types of equipment covered, and the major underwriting factors. Traditional policy forms will be examined including causes of loss and property not covered as well as exclusions.
The final Intro-Track workshop tackles Transportation Insurance and will be led by Drew Feldman, Worldwide Ocean Marine Manager, Chubb Marine Underwriters. Among the topics to be covered is the relevant legal background with respect to the evolution of transportation insurance, the parties involved in shipping goods, the types of motor carriers, key elements of coverage, and underwriting considerations. Attendees gain knowledge as to when coverage begins and ends, as well as when title passes from seller to buyer.
Those attending the Intro-Track will also be invited to participate in some of the general annual meeting sessions such as the kick-off session – a 35,000 foot level Overview of the Current State of the Inland Marine and PC Industry. As well, they will also have the opportunity to interact with more seasoned industry professionals and participate in Annual Meeting receptions, recreational activities, and trade show.
