Managed Hosting solution delivers scalability and reliability

Macquarie Telecom, Australia’s number one Managed Hosting and Business-only telecommunications company has announced it has played an important part in the launch of the My School 2.0 website. The My School 2.0 website provides Australian parents and teachers with high quality information about almost 10,000 Australian schools.

An agreement with SEMA, a technical supplier to the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) which is the independent authority responsible for the site, sees Macquarie Telecom provide dedicated managed hosting services for the recently launched, My School 2.0.

The new website follows ACARA’s launch of My School in 2010 which was overwhelmingly popular. Designed, built and benchmarked on the peak traffic loads experienced in the first release of My School, the High Availability Macquarie Telecom solution provides rapid scalability and flexibility.

“We required a managed hosting solution that was fully scalable to cope with traffic peaks and the constantly changing needs of the website. The popularity of the first My School website made us realize that a flexible and scalable managed infrastructure was critical to the success of the service ACARA was asked to provide to the Australian public,” said Alexander van der Laan, Executive Chairman, SEMA.

“The guiding principle in the design of the solution was to deliver a High Availability architecture that would best leverage the inherent security and scalability of a private cloud deployment. Critical elements of our solution have been deployed in a clustered configuration to remove any single-points of failure and provide high levels of service availability for the website,” said Aidan Tudehope, Managing Director Hosting, Macquarie Telecom.

Specifically, the Macquarie Telecom managed hosting offering includes:

  •     Dedicated SQL database servers
  •     Virtual ESX clusters
  •     Redundant dedicated physical load balancers
  •     Managed dedicated SAN for back up
  •     Redundant secure dedicated firewalls
  •     Dedicated physical server infrastructure and intrusion detection
  •     All Gigabit Redundant switching infrastructure
  •     Firewalls and Internet are active passive and configured for high availability

The solution also allows the company to monitor the health of the hosted platform through the use of Macquarie Telecom’s self management tool, InView, a real time visibility tool.

Concluding, Tudehope said, “Many government, web-facing organizations and corporate IT departments are continuing to partner with Macquarie Telecom for a more stable, secure and flexible managed hosting solution.”
