NetWorld Alliance has released three special reports for merchants and banks interested in mobile payments. The free documents are available for download at NetWorld’s new flagship Web portal, Mobile Payments Today.

The special reports, collectively titled “Mobile Payments 101,” focus on the three key markets of banking, retail and restaurants, presenting a primer for those learning how to integrate the technology available today. The reports are:
Mobile Payments 101: Restaurants
Mobile Payments 101: Retail
Mobile Payments 101: Banking

“These special reports are for the everyday merchants and banks that are curious about the benefit of mobile payments, as well as how to implement a mobile payment program,” said Tom Harper, President of NetWorld Alliance.

A recent Harris Interactive study underscores the importance of proper strategic planning and implementation of mobile payments. The study, released this month, indicates that almost half (47 percent) of consumers who have conducted a mobile transaction in the past year expect the experience on their phones to be better than the experience in-store. Eighty percent expect the experience to be better than or equal to in-store and 85 percent expect the experience to be better than or equal to online.

Other topics found at MobilePaymentsToday.com include remittance, apps, online gaming and mobile POS. The site’s news, features and related content are designed to assist organizations in understanding the cost savings and operational benefits promised by mobile payments.

James Wester, Mobile Payments Today’s editor, has already built a collection of blogs, news, videos, white papers, webinars, supplier listings, research, product reviews, and event info. “Our free e-mail newsletter attracted more than 1,000 sign-ups at the recent CTIA Wireless conference. We’re excited about the demand for news and information in this market.”

A study by CTIA The Wireless Association last year revealed that over 285 million Americans are mobile subscribers. Watching the cycle of growth in electronic transactions, Juniper Research predicts that total mobile payments will be $630 billion by 2014, involving one in every six phone subscribers worldwide.
