Specialty pharmacy company, BioPlus, reports “best ever” fundraising drive for the American Cancer Society.

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy (BioPlus), one of the nation’s leading specialty pharmacies, participated in the American Cancer Society’s April 1, 2011 Relay for Life fundraiser for the third consecutive year.

BioPlus nearly quadrupled the funds raised for the American Cancer Society, compared to last year’s effort. Each department at BioPlus participated in a challenge to see which one could raise the most funds for the American Cancer Society through various fundraisers, such as selling baked goods and raffles for sports tickets, restaurant gift certificates, a game of golf, and even to win a day off work. This friendly in-house contest resulted in a total of $3,345 raised for the American Cancer Society. BioPlus provided a catered lunch to the winning department, which was the IT/Accounting team.

“Cancer is the second largest disease state we cover on a national basis by helping our patients stay compliant to their treatment and ultimately overcome this terrible disease,” explains Sharon Ferrer, Director of Pharmaceutical Contracting at BioPlus. This deep connection to cancer and patients with cancer accounts for the on-going support BioPlus and its employees provide to the American Cancer Society’s efforts to find a cure for cancer.

“BioPlus has been participating in this fundraiser for the past three years, with employees not only involved in raising funds, but also participating in the events at the actual fundraiser. Many of our company volunteers have either been personally affected by cancer in a close family member or friend or they have survived the fight against cancer themselves,” Ferrer adds.

The Relay For Life is a global event that began in 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt, a colorectal surgeon in Tacoma, Washington, ran and walked around a sports track for 24 hours to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Since then, the Relay for Life has grown to include more than 3.5 million people in 5,000 communities in the United States (along with additional communities in 20 other countries). Each year, the Relay for Life raises funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. The Relay for Life also gives people a chance to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.
