Lucas Daniel Boyce, Director of Community Relations, Multicultural Insights, Cause Marketing and Government Affairs for the NBA’s Orlando Magic, is currently developing his national book tour to launch his first published release, Living Proof: From Foster Care to the White House and the NBA.

The publication, released January 2011, details the powerful story of an illegitimate, black foster care child, the unwavering faith of his white adoptive mother, and their improbable journey to prove that when hard work, determination and grace meet opportunity, anything can happen.

Born premature to an alcohol and drug addicted teenager, Living Proof chronicles Boyce’s journey to overcome daunting life challenges in pursuit of his dreams. Developmentally delayed as a result of his birth mother’s abuse, Boyce struggled, but his adoptive mother instilled principles that drove his determination to overcome and to empower him to eventually serve at the White House, fly aboard Air Force One, and become an executive for the Orlando Magic at the young age of 29.

The book tour will focus on audiences including: youth organizations, schools and universities, religious groups, business/sports-minded entities, and the overall public seeking an example of a motivational and successful life story.

In addition to promoting the publication’s release, Boyce speaks extensively throughout the country. He presents on the topics of: Effective Leadership, The Art of Building Successful Teams, and the Power of Family. An underlying theme throughout all of Boyce’s presentations is that no matter our circumstances or background, each of us are built for something more and that everyone has the ability to be “living proof.”

Pat Williams, Senior Vice President and co-founder of the Orlando Magic states, “Lucas proves that despite life’s circumstances, we can accomplish our dreams.” Former U.S. Senator Mel Martinez further adds, “Having lived in foster care for a time in my life and as an adoptive parent, this book touched me deeply. Living Proof relates the essence of the American Dream. Lucas’ life is inspirational. This book helps the reader understand what makes America exceptional.”

Ten percent of all speaking fees and proceeds from Living Proof are donated to the Orlando Magic’s charitable arm, the Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF). OMYF is committed to helping every child in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives.

“My goal with this book, as well as with the tour, is to encourage the country,” Boyce said. “I am an eyewitness to the incredible power of grace and am thankful for the opportunity to share what I hope will be a story of inspiration. It is my earnest hope that everyone who reads this book will come away believing that no matter the circumstance, they can accomplish their goals.”
