New York, NY (PRWEB) April 12, 2011
Sound and Space Theatre Company invites theater enthusiasts to join its launch with an innovative journey, showcasing Hamlet in a modern, Manhattan setting! Audiences will be invited to an intimate experience, alongside seven actors, to explore the action of the play. Theatergoers are encouraged to roam the site freely and follow the story through any lens they choose. They are, in part, director of their own experience!
Ultimately, the production is joining one of the most ambitious and revolutionary movements of new and re-interpretive performance in the twenty-first century: Site-Specific Theatre. This form of experimental theatre is performed in a specific location, using its properties, qualities, and inherent meanings. Instead of being confined to traditional theatre spaces, site-specific performance has extended the range of spaces and venues where theatre can take place. While Elsinore may become an office, and Denmark a company, murder, vengeance, and violent passion hold as much grip over us as they would in a Castle of a foreign Kingdom.
In addition, the company’s site-specific performance recognizes that the audience is an important, crucial element of the production and a major stakeholder of the play.
“Shakespeare originally intended for the audience to feel involved; to be a part of the experience,” says Nick Ciavarella, Artistic Director and Co-Founder of Sound and Space Theatre Company. “Our objective is not to modernize the play, but to give audiences the same accessibility that his shows originally offered.”
The events of Hamlet will occur within the context of the office with the language remaining unaltered.
Hamlet will open on April 22nd with additional show dates on APRIL 23rd, 29th & 30th and MAY 6th & 7th. For tickets, see details below.
