Beyond recognition by the world-wide architectural community, Chicago’s unique Aqua tower, part of the 28-acre Lakeshore East community developed by Magellan Development Group, is also building an international client base for its luxury condominiums.

Enhancing the legacy of Chicago’s architectural prominence, the curvaceous 87-story tower includes among its list of awards the esteemed international Emporis Skyscraper of the Year Award, considered the world’s top honor for high-rise architecture. It was also the sole U.S. structure nominated for the 2010 International Highrise Award sponsored by the Deutsches Architekturmuseum of the city of Frankfurt/Main, Germany. Aqua also has been nominated for the prestigious 2011 Prix Residential High-Rise Award from the International Real Estate Federation.

Along with the growing international design recognition, Aqua is simultaneously experiencing a growing international client base.

“We have purchasers and prospects from as ‘close’ as Toronto and Vancouver, Canada, and as far away as Barcelona, Dubai, Hong Kong, London, Madrid and Shanghai,” reported Leila Zammatta, president of Magellan Realty, sales and marketing agency for Magellan Development Group.

Aqua is the newest of a collection of distinctive towers that form the growing Lakeshore East master-planned community rising on the lakefront of downtown Chicago.

“There’s no question that the awards and praise generated by Aqua’s distinctive architecture have been instrumental in attracting visitors and ultimately buyers from all over the globe,” said Zammatta.

For example, Aqua has been described as “ingenious” by Pulitzer-Prize winning architectural critic Paul Goldberger of New Yorker magazine while Chicago Tribune architectural critic Blair Kamin labels Aqua as “the most sensuous skyscraper” in what he calls “the first city in American architecture.”

Bold in both design and function, Aqua, designed by Jeanne Gang of Studio/Gang architects features a dramatic design produced by outdoor balconies and terraces that form unique, undulating contours of different sizes and shapes that change gradually from the lower to the higher part of the building.
Zammatta suggests that while its spectacular appearance continues to attract thousands of visitors, it is not the only reason that it has gained attention from buyers around the world. She calls Aqua’s location and amenities incomparable.

Lakeshore East has been classified as The Most Walkable Place in the City by http://www.walkscore.com.     In addition to its proximity to the city’s leading tourist attractions – Navy Pier, Millennium Park and the Boul Mich shopping district of North Michigan Avenue – its rating is based on proximity to stores, work, restaurants, shopping, entertainment, cultural attractions such as museums, theaters and public attractions.

The 87-story mixed-use Aqua tower that anchors the $4 billion Lakeshore East includes a 262-unit condo component on the top 29 floors. They range from studios to three-bedroom penthouse residences. Another residential option available to homebuyers is a group of nine townhomes lining the Park at Lakeshore East on the east-side of the tower. Also designed by Jeanne Gang, the luxurious Aqua Parkhomes feature three levels of living of approximately 3,200 square feet.

Equally imposing to being hailed as Chicago’s newest architectural landmark is an amenities package, known as The Shore Club, comparable to a world-class resort.

It includes a distinctive 80,000-square-foot deck – the largest in the city -- with luxury gardens, gazebos, pools and cabañas, hot tub, running track, fire pit and grills.

Indoors, a 35,000-square-foot amenity floor provides fitness facilities, an indoor lap pool, a spa featuring a hot tub, sauna, steam and massage room, a basketball court, private party suites with catering kitchens, media room, billiards and game area, business conference center, and skygarden.

Lakeshore East is believed to be the largest parcel of downtown land under development in a major U.S. city. It is regarded as a preview of the future, a mixed-use development where people live, work, shop, eat and pursue whatever interests them without having to get into a car.
