Princeton, NJ (PRWEB) April 12, 2011
Neal Goff, educational publishing consultant and former President of the Weekly Reader Publishing Group, announced today the opening of a new online eBookstore designed exclusively for K-12 educators.
The store, located at http://www.K12TeacherStore.com, provides teachers with supplementary educational materials – interactive eBooks, workbooks, teaching guides, lesson plans and downloadable software – only in digital form. It opened with a virtual inventory of almost 25,000 titles produced by 200 educational publishers.
“At the end of my tenure at Weekly Reader, I devoted a lot of energy to building out the company’s digital product line,” said Goff. “It was clear to me then that more and more teachers want digital materials for their classrooms. K12TeacherStore.com is designed to meet this need.”
Goff plans for the eBookstore not only to be a convenient retail location for teachers but also to make it a destination where they can find interesting and useful information about eBooks in K-12 schools. The site invites visitors to sign up for a free eNewsletter about eBooks, the K12 TeacherFile. K12TeacherStore.com will also work closely with edWeb.net, the social networking site for the education community, to keep site visitors informed about eBook-related issues.
At edWeb.net, Goff is the host of the Exploring eBooks for K-12 community, which provides educators, publishers and other interested parties a venue for discussing the challenges involved in bringing eBooks into schools. In conjunction with the store opening, Goff and edWeb.net plan to launch a monthly “Lunch & Learn” series of online chats about eBook issues. The first such chat, on the topic eBooks in Schools and Libraries: How, When, in What Formats–and at What Cost?, will be held Friday, April 29, at 12 noon EDT.
“It's been great to work with Neal to launch an eBooks community on edWeb.net,” said Lisa Schmucki, edWeb.net’s founder and CEO. “We are really excited about how the information shared in the community can help everyone move forward faster with the adoption of eBooks, and can help provide direction for the growth of K12TeacherStore.com.”
K12TeacherStore.com’s relationship with edWeb.net is the continuation of a collaboration between Goff and edWeb; his consulting firm, Egremont Associates, worked with edWeb.net last summer to field a study of K-12 educators’ eBook usage and their attitudes towards eBooks. Some 1300 K-12 teachers and librarians responded to the research survey, which was co-sponsored by MCH Strategic Data and TecKnoQuest Inc. The report that resulted from the survey, entitled eBooks: K-12 Educators' Usage and Attitudes, is available for sale at sellingtoschools.com.
