Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) April 12, 2011
SparkPeople.com, America's largest weight loss website, announced that its largest-ever virtual race, the Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K, has already attracted over 6,000 people and is open to additional participants through its conclusion on Saturday, April 16.
SparkPeople's virtual races enable walkers and runners who can't afford to join an organized race, don't have any happening near them, or are simply unable to participate in one, to compete against themselves—and other participants—any week of the year. Participants simply map out their own route, complete their race, then post their results online.
The Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K celebrates the introduction of SparkPeople's new "5K Your Way" training programs, which include four different training plans to help aspiring 5K runners or walkers prepare for a race, regardless of their current fitness level. The training programs provide weekly training emails, interactive training calendars to track workouts, and support from other participants following the same plan.
All entrants in the Spark into Spring event will receive a printable PDF certificate for participating. SparkPeople will conduct a random drawing of all eligible participants who complete a race and enter their time on the Virtual Race page for the Virtual 5K . Prizes include:
- One randomly selected participant will receive a $100 gift certificate to Zappos.com to buy new workout shoes
- 10 randomly selected participants will receive a SparkPeople T-shirt
"Training to walk or run a 5K is a great goal for people at any fitness level," said Nicole Nichols, Personal Trainer at SparkPeople.com, who helped create the 5K Your Way program. "Our simple, fun five-week training programs are ideal tools to help aspiring participants prepare for a race and improve their health along the way. We think the Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K is a terrific way to introduce those programs. We're delighted that more than 6,000 participants have signed up and we welcome all racers through Saturday."
When you enter the Spark Into Spring Virtual 5K or join one of our 5K training programs and are not a SparkPeople member, you will prompted to register for free and enjoy free access to all the tools, content and community that have made SparkPeople America's largest weight-loss website.
