This year’s recipients applied innovative web technology in order to stimulate local businesses and provide access to e-government services. Dedicated to the successes of the local community, SantaBarbaraCa.gov is one of several Local Government portals offering outstanding online resources for local businesses and e-government services.

According to Scott Nelson, Webmaster for the City of Santa Barbara, “The overarching goal is to provide access to City information and services via the City web site on a 24/7 basis. The web site architecture creates a citizen-centered information hierarchy to allow visitors to the site easy access to the information they seek.”

The awards editor at Juggle.com hand-selected this year’s Top Local Government Award recipients by evaluating a variety of site features and functionality, including: usability, up-to-date content, access to e-government services, community resources and technological innovation. The features and functionality offered to users enabled them to surpass other websites in their class.

“The biggest hurdle continues to be organizing the tens of thousands of pages and documents so that web site visitors can find what they want with the fewest number of clicks. Best practices dictates that our four top-level categories; Government, Residents, Business and Visitors, tends to be the architecture of choice for the best local government sites,” noted Nelson.
