Graphic Designer Provides Immediate Turnaround for Local Nonprofit

Academy of St. Louis, an elementary and high school for learning-challenged students, proudly announces the launch of its newly-designed Web site, The new site includes a number of features intended to inform and assist student, parents, donors and community members.

St. Louis-based Powers by Design,, re-created the organization’s Web site after designing a brochure in time for the Academy’s open house last fall. With only a few days notice, Chris Powers, president of Powers by Design, worked day and night to finish the job.

“We were so impressed with Chris’ turnaround time and dedication to quality product that we had no qualms about hiring him to fix up our Web site,” said Terri O’Daniel, Academy of St. Louis’ advancement director. “In today’s educational fundraising environment, our marketing materials are essential tools for our success.”

Prior to working with Powers by Design, the Academy of St. Louis faced many of the same marketing struggles that so many other organizations face (both non-profit and for-profit organizations): ineffective branding, overpriced materials and Web site designs that promise results but yield ineffective. The solution, as the Academy discovered, is not to throw more money at the problem, but instead, re-think the solutions.

“Too many small business owners and leaders of non-profit organizations struggle to meet the demands of stakeholders, while still keeping an eye on their budget,” Powers said. “The last thing they need is to have to follow up with graphic designers who don’t deliver on time or with the materials needed.”

Powers explained that he first asked the Academy what they hoped for, and then consulted them on what best works with brochure marketing and online marketing. His goal: to help them spend less money and achieve better results.

The new features on include: an interactive calendar that contains photos and videos where appropriate; newsletter integration so that visitors can sign up to receive the newsletter by email and access previous newsletter issues with ease; and, a thorough contact page with map and directions designed to decrease call volume and administrative demands of the Academy’s front office. Of course, the new site also has an attractive design, logical navigation and search engine optimized content.
