Laid Off Worker Finds Niche in Diversity Publications

When Lou Acosta was laid off on Sept.1, 2006 he wasn’t sure what his future would be. Lou had spent 8 years working at his job, he volunteered on various advisory boards and eventhough he was approved and started receiving unemployment benefits, the State of Ohio sent him a letter demanding him to return the money. Instead of just receiving the added insult to injury, Lou started research on the unemployment industry and found that there are many unemployment lawyers for employers but very few for employees.

Lou Acosta knew that no matter how bad things were looking for him, that there were other people that were probably having worse problems. Lou decided to turn all of his energy into enhancing the quality of life of people all around him. One such way is with the Hispanic Business & Resource Directory that will be published on May 25th and given out through Northeast Ohio.

"We take a part of the proceeds and give them to a few non-profits, I've also started an annonymous donor group that along with other business people, we give monies to deserving non-profits that are experiencing cut backs". Lou Added "When I started after my lay off I wrote short positive articles about everyday community people, and they would have 10 or 12 people call them to congratulate them on the article about them. That's when I started to see people's life change due to a little recognition."

Last October, Lou Acosta started North Coast Minority Media LLC, an MBE, SBE, EDGE certified company that publishes, directories, community tabloids, magazines, custom prints, annual reports, newsletters and anything else that is positive to make people smile.
