Entries are now open for “Images of Hope 2011” an online photo contest to benefit the Canadian Cancer Society’s Relay for Life fundraiser. 100% of the entry fees will be donated to the Cancer Society. The contest is decided by Peoples’ Choice voting which is also open now.

Being diagnosed with an extremely rare form of cancer last July made Christina Handley step back and reevaluate her life. “When you find out you have cancer, all the things you thought mattered before, they just don't matter anymore," Handley said.

Her response to her cancer diagnosis was to reach out to help others in similar circumstances. Christina has a remarkable gift to talk about her cancer experience and connect with people. She is raising awareness and helping people by telling her story and helping them to tell theirs.

Her Relay for Life team, called "The Fightin’ Fillies", is off to a great start on their fundraising efforts that include note card and art photo sales and now an online photography contest at http://www.RelayPhotoContest.com.

As a professional photographer who does work for many magazines, Handley said she initially feared the diagnosis would have an impact on her professionally as well as physically. She was concerned that her work might suffer if people knew she was battling cancer.

A major turning point came for her when she watched "Stand Up to Cancer" on TV in September. She said seeing the celebrities on the show talking openly about their cancer made her realize there was nothing to fear and an opportunity to do a great deal of good.

In 2010 while waiting for her diagnosis, Handley took in the annual Relay For Life event in Lindsay Ontario. She said she was impressed by the amount of support and strength people were showing, which in turn, made her decide she wanted to enter a team for the 2011 event. Her team is made up of a number of friends who have also owned horses and several are fellow horse photographers. This shared love of horses and photography are a powerful fundraising combination.

Christina and other team members have offered some of their best fine art photographs for sale with all the funds going to the Cancer Society.

The Fillies have launched an online photo contest to raise funds and awareness. The theme of the photo contest is “Hope” and 100% of the proceeds go to Relay For Life. The contest is rapidly growing in popularity offering people a way to make a tribute to a loved one, tell their story and inspire others with their images.

Christina also raises funds through sales of a very popular note card made from a special photo of her horse, a Belgian mare named Reba. In an eerie coincidence, cancer first entered Handley's life when her beloved Reba, succumbed to cancer one year to the day from her own diagnosis. The note card features an image of Reba and an inspiring verse written by Christina.
