iPrimus today announced that it has been selected by NBNCo as a “First Release” NBN provider for the upcoming NBN end-user trials across the five first release sites on the Australian mainland.
The announcement follows a very successful partnership for iPrimus with NBN Tasmania to provide services in Midway Point, Scottsdale and Smithton as part of the NBN trial in 2010.
In announcing its appointment by NBNCo, iPrimus confirmed that it has successfully completed accreditation with NBNCo, known as the onboarding program, which ensures it is NBN ready. The onboarding program includes network and operational testing to ensure services can be ordered and delivered efficiently once the rollout commences.
The first iPrimus customer in this second phase of deployment is expected to go live in the near future on a 100Mbps/40Mbps service, with additional customers to follow as fibre optic internet is commissioned in more areas around Australia.
Primus CEO Ravi Bhatia said: “Primus is delighted to bring the new generation Fibre to the Home high speed services to our customers. We have gained valuable experience from our Fibre customers in Tasmania, as well as other greenfield Fibre sites around Australia and we believe we have the expertise, people, and network to provide our customers with a superior experience.”
Initial test services will be activated in customers’ homes, providing them with the first services delivered on mainland Australia as part of the new network. Extensive testing has already begun and live customers will be turned on once the network is ready.
Primus’ involvement in updating its network to be NBN-ready is part of the company’s expansion plans in Australia which have included upgrading its core network to support high-throughput services, IPv6 and a host of advanced functionalities to provide enhanced Corporate and Consumer services, both on the NBN and for the existing Primus National Network.
