When Boston based Xplana sought a mobile development partner to create a presence for their social learning platform, they chose Information Control Corporation, the largest IT services provider in Ohio. ICC consistently delivers innovative, engaging mobile solutions by integrating rich user experiences with enterprise applications and business data to empower users, consumers and customers. The mobile experts at ICC partnered with Xplana to create set of Android and iPhone apps to extend the Xplana digital content platform for university students across the United States.

Xplana is an online social learning platform that connects learners to content and communities. Owned by MBS Direct, the platform is free to students and features an open, modular architecture that provides an organized learning context for student resources. It simplifies the learning process by connecting students’ informal learning outside of the classroom with the formal platforms and structures of schools and institutions. Additionally, Xplana serves as an access and distribution point for premium content from educational publishers and other premium content providers, targeted to the specific academic subject need of the student.

“The ICC developed apps allow students to access and produce study content on their mobile devices,” said Rob Reynolds, director of product design and research for Xplana. “This includes notes, video, audio and images that can all be tagged for easy access and sharing through the Xplana platform. It simplifies students’ lives by giving them the ability to learn on the go and in a way that best suits their schedules.”

The new mobile applications give students full access to many of the important study features available through Xplana’s online platform. Students can view all of their notes, videos, flashcards and other resources, and can increase productivity by turning their mobile device into a powerful learning tool. The application creates a highly collaborative learning environment through integrations with students’ Facebook and Twitter accounts. With the ability to share content across these social networks that they create on Xplana or on their mobile devices, students can trade notes, peer edit papers or collaborate on group work from any location.

“We were focused on creating a mobile environment that drives increased user engagement and activity to Xplana’s outstanding learning platform,” stated Scot Burdette, vice president of Application and Integration Services for ICC. “Mobile solutions dramatically change business interaction. Having a mobile presence is critical as organizations compete to drive brand awareness and revenue while decreasing operational costs. We understand the unique challenges that organizations face in adopting technology to meet their business goals and we immerse ourselves in meeting those challenges to produce business value through our adaptive, outcome based approach.”
