Earth Day Clean-Up at MacArthur Park by "I Clean LA" & "The Way to Happiness"

Organized by "I Clean LA" and "The Way to Happiness," over 250 volunteers contributed 1,000 man hours at MacArthur Park, Los Angeles this Saturday in celebration of Earth Day while educating many on the importance of safeguarding and improving the environment.

A long standing cultural icon of Los Angeles, MacArthur Park saw a huge clean-up effort by over 250 volunteers in celebration of Earth Day this weekend. Organized by "I Clean LA" with "The Way to Happiness." People of many different nationalities were in full force to fill scores of bags of trash while educating many on the importance of safeguarding and Improving the environment based on a precept from the widely distributed booklet "The Way to Happiness."

Co-organizer and president of "I Clean LA" Ignacio Barsottelli an environmentalist with 23 years of experience and two awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency stated, "This clean up in alliance with "The Way to Happiness" marks the beginning of a city wide campaign to educate people on the importance of the taking care of the environment – and make a difference. This park is not only an icon for Los Angeles, but has the unique feature of having an underground spring that supplies the lake’s water. This clean-up is an effort that encourages members of the local community to contribute to maintaining the park for everyone to enjoy.”

Both sides of MacArthur park were scoured by 250 volunteers who were divided into teams of 12 who clocked up an impressive 1,000 volunteer man hours. Participants included members of the community native to; Mexico, Guatemala, Venezuela, Argentina, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Germany, England, Pakistan and the United States. Free copies of the 21-precept non-religious moral guide booklet "The Way to Happiness" written by L. Ron Hubbard were on hand which includes the precepts “Set a Good Example” and “Safeguard and Improve Your Environment.” “I Clean LA” and “The Way to Happiness” were joined by the local community group “HOLA” (Hispanic Organization of Los Angeles) who came with over 40 volunteers. Materials and coordination for the clean-up was facilitated by Andy Ho and Jacqueline Chilin of the LA Department of Recreation and Parks.
