Vertical Research Partners announced today that C.A. “Chip” Dillon, III and James Armstrong will be joining the firm to cover the Paper and Packaging industry globally. Chip Dillon, who joins as a Partner in the firm, has been a top-ranked analyst in this space for nearly two decades. He has been ranked #1 eight times in the Institutional Investor poll.

Chip Dillon will join the firm as a Partner covering the Global Paper and Packaging Industry. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and consistently ranks highly in the major polls/surveys of U.S. Paper and Packaging Analysts, including a No. 1 ranking on eight occasions in the Institutional Investor poll. In addition, Chip is the only U.S. Paper and Forest Products Analyst to be inducted into the Wall Street Journal Analyst “Hall of Fame.” Chip was named the top stock picking analyst in the “General Industries” category in the Wall Street Journal annual “Best on the Street” rankings for 2010.
A Wall Street veteran, Chip has covered the space for two decades, most recently as a Managing Director at Credit Suisse and prior to that, Citigroup Investment Research. He also worked at First Manhattan Co. and J.P. Morgan Investment Management. Prior to business school, Chip was associated with Bankers Trust Company (now part of Deutsche Bank).
Born in Raleigh, North Carolina, he earned a BS from the University of North Carolina in 1980, and an MBA from Columbia University in 1986. Chip and his wife, Margaret, have five children and reside in the suburbs of New York City.
James Armstrong will join the firm as a Research Analyst covering the Global Paper and Packaging Industry. Prior to joining Vertical Research Partners, James assisted Chip with coverage of the paper and packaging stocks at Credit Suisse and Citigroup Investment Research. James began his career in finance as a retail analyst at the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio where he managed a $150 million retail portfolio.
After growing up around the world, James earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Cincinnati, his Masters in Physics studying fusion / non-linear dynamics at Auburn University and his MBA from the Ohio State University.
