We are proud to have been selected to take part in the revitalization of Boston’s transportation system, and we hope our contribution to this project paves the way for Shea Concrete’s participation in similar jobs in the future.

Shea Concrete, one of New England’s largest precast concrete manufacturers, was recently selected to provide precast concrete products for the construction of the Newmarket Station along the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)’s Fairmount corridor. The new commuter rail station is being built adjacent to the South Bay Shopping Center, as part of a city initiative to support urban industrial areas like the Newmarket Back Streets district, which is home to more than 1,000 businesses and considered the largest industrial area within the City of Boston.

The project commenced late last year and is expected to be completed by February 2013. Shea Concrete is responsible for supplying precast concrete materials to the general contractor, S & R Construction of Newton, New Hampshire. Specifically, Shea Concrete has already delivered and will continue to deliver the following precast concrete materials for the Newmarket Station:
Ï    Electrical and communication manholes;
Ï    Drainage structures; and
Ï    Lighpole bases.

“We have tremendous momentum right now with commercial projects, and we’ve been steadily attracting large municipal jobs like this one,” said Greg Stratis, Shea Concrete’s Amesbury plant manager. “We are proud to have been selected to take part in the revitalization of Boston’s transportation system, and we hope our contribution to this project paves the way for Shea Concrete’s participation in similar jobs in the future.”

The Newmarket Station is one of the many components of a larger City project, the Fairmount Commuter Rail Rehabilitation Project , which will transform the nine-mile long corridor. The project will also include the construction of three other new stations on the Fairmount line. The completion of the new line is expected to significantly decrease the number of car trips into the city.
