Iowa DNR Launches New Online ATV Education Course

A new interactive online ATV education course is now available in Iowa through Fresh Air Educators. features a fully narrated, interactive course that allows students to obtain their Iowa ATV Education Certificates online.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources now allows ATV safety education on the Internet, through This online course, developed by Fresh Air Educators, Inc. features a narrated and interactive study guide, as well as visual exam and quiz questions. Riders ages 12 through 17 must have an education certificate in order to ride an ATV on public land or public ice in Iowa.

Rhonda Fowler, ATV Education Coordinator for the DNR is excited about this new online course. "In 2008 the DNR developed a rider-based certification program, but we have not been able to get to as many students and as many locations as we would like. As we continue to build that program, we are also able to offer the online program option. With the online course, students will have an interactive and dynamic experience. We've customized the course curriculum with Fresh Air Educators to ensure that the course meets our exact needs, and we think students will love the narrations and interactive elements."

The online ATV course underwent a thorough review with industry leaders as well as representatives from numerous state agencies responsible for ATV Safety Education. Additional state-specific information such as riding opportunities, laws and regulations, were also reviewed and approved by the DNR.
