Ashland Inc. (NYSE: ASH) is proud to announce that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded the company “Shipper Partner” status for its transportation activities involving its Valvoline™ automotive products.
The SmartWay Transport Partnership is an innovative collaboration between EPA and members of the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog. By being selected to the SmartWay Transport Partnership, Ashland’s Valvoline brand is recognized for its strong environmental leadership and corporate responsibility.
"Sustainability is an important objective for Valvoline. By joining the SmartWay Transport Partnership, we are affirming our commitment to ship Valvoline products with carriers who also value the principles of sustainability," said Samuel J. Mitchell, president, Ashland Consumer Markets.
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations to pursue mutually beneficial efficiencies that result in emissions reductions and other environmental improvements, as well as cost savings to the companies. The Partnership currently has more than 2550 partners.
