Hit The Bar provides a different and fairer way for all pubs to market themselves online by being completely free thus enabling all pubs to have a proper updateable entry which leads to a bigger, more comprehensive pub directory than anything else on the web.

The portal was created after speaking to a number of people in the industry, including hundreds of pubs that are already with websites4pubs. Technical Director, Steve Neale says that “There are a number of portals and directories on the internet but none are really pro-pub. Most are built on customer reviews which are invariably negative, out of date and not fairly moderated, if at all. We aim to redress the balance by offering a completely free portal where all pubs can have full control over their content. Their entry on the portal provides accurate information from which the customer can make their own informed choice.”

Hit The Bar provides more detailed information for customers with revolutionary search tools like looking for pubs based on their ambience, not just what they sell or offer. “We’ve even teamed up with Groupon so pubs can include these offers in the website”. All search results for pubs are scored based on the content and relevancy of the content – just like search engines. All claimed entries will appear above unclaimed ones, hence the importance for pub owners and managers to claim their entry.

All entries on Hit The Bar are free and even when a pub changes hands the ability for the new owner to reclaim the entry is a simple and fair process. ”The whole ethos behind is to provide a platform where pubs that want to succeed, can succeed. To enable that to happen we have to take away cost as that inhibits take-up, especially in economic conditions we have now. Quality of information is key in the modern internet, it’s no longer about how much, it’s about what” is a development that is totally funded and supported by which is why it can be provided as a free portal. This has the additional benefit that all claimed entries do not have any advertising on their pages and in fact pubs can use their portal page as their own website if they wish with customisation possible.

The portal is also pubco friendly. Operators with multiple venues will benefit from being able to add marketing and promotional offers to all their entries with a single click.

Other benefits for pubs include the fact no charge is made for links to their own websites (important for search engine optimisation), no premium rate phone number for enquiries and an easy way to update their entries.

Future projects include the ability for pubs to market directly to customers via email and SMS, a mobile app and customer loyalty system.
