Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) October 03, 2011
Valley Toyota Dealers, Quicken Loans and Fathead have joined the fight against ALS by sponsoring The Scottsdale Walk to Defeat ALS on Saturday, October 22, 2011 benefitting The ALS Association Arizona Chapter.
The walk will be held for the second year at Scottsdale Stadium, where patients along with their families and friends will make a 2.5-mile trek in The Walk to Defeat ALS™, hoping their steps will make a difference for more than 160 ALS patients living in the Valley.
Valley Toyota Dealers have donated $46,000 in support of a family walk team who has been affected by ALS. This will be their second year sponsoring the walk, but this year they have shown extreme generosity by more than quadrupling their sponsorship for this year’s walk.
This will be the third year Quicken Loans and Fathead have participated in the event and they are sponsoring the Scottsdale Walk by contributing $15,000 initially as well as forming a corporate walk team with the lofty goal of $25,000. The two companies are also sponsoring the 2011 walks in Detroit and Cleveland -- where Quicken Loans has offices.
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, progressively paralyzes its victims, attacking nerve cells and pathways in the brain or spinal cord. When the cells die, voluntary muscle control and movement dies with them. With only two to five years to live, these patients have an urgent need and the community is stepping in to fill it by walking for those who can’t.
The Walk to Defeat ALS is the Association’s signature event raising nearly $420,000 in Arizona last year to support local patient care and cutting-edge research. To register for the Scottsdale Walk, call 602-297-3800 or visit http://walkaz.alsa.org.
