Following its launch of large format printing services, Wordans.com announced today that it is expanding its client boutique, or “online shop” system to allow users to create and sell their own prints, posters and canvases. The company previously offered this service exclusively to T-shirt artists and designers. The online boutiques, which are updated by the clients and managed by Wordans.com currently house more than 50,000 unique designs.
“Since our entrance into the on-demand large format printing market, we felt it was natural for us to offer a platform for our users to be able to sell large format prints of their photographs, designs and artwork,” said Wordans.com head Eric Gautier.
The high resolution of the posters and other available prints, up to 1400 dots per inch, coupled with the choices of paper and canvas allow online shop operators on Wordans.com to put together portfolios that are ready to sell.
“The main advantage of the online shop system on Wordans.com is that it allows illustrators, photographers, artists and enthusiasts alike to monetize their artwork without having to invest in printing and inventory,” said Simon Banville, Montreal-based comic illustrator and author.
To add a further sense of transparency to the artist-oriented initiative, Gautier commented that operators of online shops on Wordans.com retain complete ownership of the copyrights in their work. As such they are free to sell elsewhere or collect royalties without any third party involvement from Wordans. “ I wanted to keep things simple for the artists and contributors. Our model allows artists to set their own prices so they have complete control,” said Gautier.
Wordans.com is a Montreal based online retailer of custom apparel and accessories. The company's product line includes t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts and other apparel as well as posters and large format prints, and iPhone and iPad skins. The company, founded in 2009 by Eric Gautier, ships its customized products internationally.
