The Houston Business-Education Coalition (HBEC) is pleased to announce that it has endorsed Paula Harris in the District 4 Houston Independent School District (HISD) Election.
"We interviewed all candidates and carefully considered responses to a detailed questionnaire," said Jonathan Day, HBEC Pac Chair. "Paula is an outstanding community leader with a strong record of supporting our public schools. She is committed to improving student academic performance and reducing our unacceptable drop-out rate. HBEC is grateful for her continuing commitment to serve HISD and its students and parents."

About Paula Harris:
Paula Harris is a native Houstonian who was educated in HISD. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in petroleum engineering, affording her a 20 year career in the oil industry. She is currently the director of community affairs for Schlumberger.
Paula Harris has received several awards and acknowledgments, including being named to Black Engineer's "50 Who Make a Difference" and "Key Women in Energy", the "Women of Color in Technology", the Mentor Award for Greater Houston's Women's Chamber of Commerce, and the 2007 "Outstanding Texan" award. Paula has also had the honor of being profiled in Black Engineer, Graduating Engineer, Money Magazine, and Houston Women magazines. She is active in the community and serves on the boards of Project Row Houses, the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, Hester House, Menil Development, the Mental Health Association, and The Ensemble Theatre. She was appointed to the Texas Energy Planning Council, and the HISD Career and Technology Education Advisory Board. Paula was also recently selected to serve on the Board of Directors for Space Center Houston, where she will chair the education subcommittee.
Paula has served the parents, students, and schools of District 4 since she was elected to the Houston Independent School District Board of Education in 2007. She was chosen by her peers to serve as first vice president in her first year as a trustee and again in 2010, and now she is serving as president. Paula is committed to improving the education of students in HISD. This commitment is reflected in her many accomplishments as a Board member, such as the decreasing drop out rate and rise in student achievement.
