“Study guides are super cool and make reference materials fun and functional for kids and teachers”
Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) October 05, 2011
Just in time for the new school year, BarCharts, Inc.—the premier publisher of academic- and home-based reference tools—has donated 20,000 of its QuickStudy laminated study guides to be given to disadvantaged children around the United States.
The guides are being distributed by the Kids In Need Foundation, a nationwide organization dedicated to providing free supplies to students who attend low-income schools. The total amount of the donation is approximately $99,000.
Included within the donation are the following guides:
- Spanish Fundamentals (5,000 count)
- Spanish Vocabulary (5,000 count)
- Algebra (5,000 count)
- Chemistry (5,000 count)
“Study guides are super cool and make reference materials fun and functional for kids and teachers,” says Jennifer Lehman, director of donor relations and gift in kind for Kids In Need. “Kids In Need is grateful to be able to distribute this type of material through product donations made by BarCharts. Together, we are helping students dream big!”
Founded in 1995, the Kids In Need Foundation has devoted itself to ensuring that children have the basic supplies they need in order to perform well academically. The organization operates a national network of 25 “Resource Centers” where K-12 teachers from underfunded schools can shop for pencils, paper, pens, crayons, markers and other items—all free of charge.
Kids In Need has met with much success over the years; in 2010 alone, the organization distributed an all-time high of $43 million in school supplies, added two Resource Centers to the network, and met its fundraising goal of $1.4 million.
In addition to its work with Kids In Need, BarCharts is well known for its past charitable endeavors which include donations to such organizations as Surfers for Autism, Edutopia, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and others.
According to Jason Scerbo, marketing and academic sales manager for BarCharts, giving back to the community is an important initiative for the company—especially when it comes to organizations like Kids In Need.
“Too many teachers and students are going back to school this year without the right tools needed to learn or teach effectively,” Scerbo says. “BarCharts was glad that it could donate its best-selling study guides to Kids In Need so that underprivileged students and teachers can have an extra edge in the classroom this year.”
