Riviera Black Hawk Casino Partners With Two Local Orgs During October’s National Breast Cancer Awareness Month: The ‘Riv Give’ Campaign Raises Funds for Colorado Cause

The Riviera Black Hawk Casino is “all in” this October in a first-ever partnership with two local organizations to fight breast cancer with a program known as The Riv Give Campaign 2011.

“It’s important for us to give back,” said Erica Ferris, Marketing Manager for Riviera Black Hawk. “That’s a big part of our corporate culture, and something we truly believe in.”

2,840 Coloradoans are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, and 494 succumb to the disease annually, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health. That’s why Riviera Black Hawk Casino is “all in” this October in a first-ever partnership with two local organizations to fight this disease, known as The Riv Give Campaign 2011.

“It’s important for us to give back,” said Erica Ferris, Marketing Manager for Riviera Black Hawk. “That’s a big part of our corporate culture, and something we truly believe in.”

The casino has selected the Denver Metropolitan Chapter of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (http://www.KomenDenver.org) organization as a philanthropic partner during October, which has been designed as the annual National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Rocky Mountain affiliate of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (http://www.avonwalk.org/rocky-mountains) will also benefit from the Riviera giving campaign.

General Manager Nick Polcino says that his entire organization is fully involved in this month long philanthropic drive.

“We wanted to develop a sustainable giving program,” Polcino emphasized. “So this isn’t a one day, one time effort. We have a number of interactive events scheduled the entire month, all designed for guest participation, team member involvement and corporate donations.”

According to Ferris, those events include free breast cancer bracelet giveaways to the first 500 guests every Saturday morning in October, an internal “garage sale” where Riviera staff – known as team members – can purchase company promotional goods, and a special giveaway of 300 pink Tomboy Tool Kits to guests who earn specified award points. Proceeds from these functions will then be donated to both the Denver Komen for the Cure and the Rocky Mountain Avon Walk for Breast Cancer organizations.

“For every bracelet we give away to guests on Saturday mornings,” Polcino said. “We’ll give one dollar to the Denver area Komen Foundation which benefits patients right here in our local community.”

This year marks the first time Riviera Black Hawk has partnered with these local charities in support of a national cause.

“You don’t have to look very far to find a colleague, friend or family member that has been impacted by a diagnosis of breast cancer,” Ferris added. “ It’s the third leading killer among those diagnosed with the disease nationally. So it’s our goal to step up and stamp out this disease within our own Colorado communities.”
