According to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, an estimated 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer occurred among women worldwide in 2010. To help others who may be diagnosed with cancer, author and two-time cancer survivor Diane Casperson, with coauthor Cynthia Wakefield, pens her inspiration story in “New Breast Friends: Surviving Cancer... Twice” (published by WestBow Press).

Casperson’s life came to a screeching halt when at the age of 39 she was diagnosed with breast cancer. “Once I felt that foreign object, my life entered what I liken to a tunnel,” she recalls, “a dark and scary tunnel with no end light to guide me through.” Casperson was fortunate and survived.

When she thought it was over, cancer once again reared it’s ugly head as Casperson was diagnosed a second time. “Decision after decision came my way and I had to make the choice to deny or accept, be positive or negative, trust in my faith or doubt,” she says.

She was scared and unsure of what the future held in store. It was only through her trust in God, and leaning on her “breast friends,” however, that she attributes her survival.

“My New Breast Friends” is a heartwarming revelation of embracing life’s difficult moments through unexpected relationships. Readers will be encouraged as they travel through this story of trial and error, triumph and defeat, laughter and tears that will end up lifting their faith to new heights.

About the Authors
Diane Casperson was born and raised in a small town in upper Michigan. She and her husband, Tom, were married in 1982 and were raising four children when Casperson was diagnosed with breast cancer. Casperson was only 39 years old at the time. She battled and defeated cancer once, only to have it return six years later. Today, Casperson is cancer free and sharing her intimate story to encourage others.

Diane found her coauthor, Cynthia Wakefield, when their oldest children decided to get married. Thus, Casperson’s long-awaited story found its voice.
