See VirtualAgility 's industry-leading technology, as used by Rio’s new Operations Center
Winchester, MA (PRWEB) October 06, 2011
Some IAEM-EMEC attendees watching the demonstration of VirtualAgility emergency management solution will have had a hand in creating it.
“Of course we have listened to IAEM member experts,” said VirtualAgility CEO Stuart Rudolph. “Crisis management doctrine and technology are changing at an exponential rate at locations worldwide. As a result we’re continuously working out better solutions in real-time with our customers, our SMEs, and partners such as IBM.”
VirtualAgility OPS Center™, (VOC), the centerpiece of the City of Rio de Janeiro Operation Center, is a prime example. The new Centro de Operações do Rio de Janeiro, improves the speed and quality of the city's response to events and incidents supports every phase of the crisis cycle from risk identification and preparedness to coordinated response and recovery. Emergency managers from city agencies including police, fire, civil defense, EMR, transit and utilities are housed at the center and coordinate activities and share information using VirtualAgility. The new Rio system’s incident management capabilities allow them to collaborate with colleagues and first responders anywhere in Rio.
VirtualAgility leverages advanced IBM technology and VirtualAgility’s Crisis WorkCenter to let managers consolidate disparate information flows with existing plans and procedures, in order to maintain high levels of situational awareness. VirtualAgility also enables managers to integrate the plans and actions of public agencies and government departments and coordinate operations, regardless of different systems, communications and policies.
VirtualAgility and IBM’s EM partnership
VirtualAgility will be showcasing the VirtualAgility WorkCenter that is optimized on the IBM System Z mainframe. This new IBM mainframe incorporates a hybrid computing approach that can manage Intel-based and blade servers in an efficient, virtualized mainframe environment. VirtualAgility WorkCenter is also certified on IBM's Intel-based X series, as well as IBM Power series servers. By offering VirtualAgility WorkCenter on its System Z mainframe, IBM is now making available to the enterprise a safe, secure rapid application development SOA environment. WorkCenter enables “citizen developers” to work within the governance of IT management to quickly modify their base emergency management applications in response to the changing requirements of specific crisis situations.
According to Rudolph, the IAEM-EMEC 2011 event will be a perfect opportunity for emergency managers and city officials to get a detailed briefing on the Rio deployment. “It’s the most comprehensive Smarter Cities installation ever undertaken,” Rudolph said. “This will be a chance for emergency management professionals to learn all about it, from the hardware and software, to ways VirtualAgility subject matter expertise informed the Rio Center system functionality. As soon as our customers in Rio saw what the VirtualAgility system was capable of, they kept thinking of new functionality that would be useful to have. We were literally creating some of that functionality on the spot. For professionals, it should be a very instructive case to see.”
VirtualAgility will be demonstrating VirtualAgility WorkCenter with the IBM Z team in stand #1424 (Hall B5). The EMEC trade fair is co-located with Inter-Airport Europe 2011 show: the 17th International Exhibition for Airport Equipment, Technology, Design & Services.
