Karen Scharnhorst was born and brought up in northeastern Ohio. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology, a master’s in microbiology and an MBA (master's degree in business administration). She has worked as an analyst for several governmental and non-profit organizations. Karen and her husband, David, live in California and have two grown children.
