The desktop virtualization market is now mature enough to appreciate the value Unidesk brings to the table.
Marlborough, Mass. (PRWEB) October 05, 2011
A new IDC Vendor Profile states the desktop virtualization market is now mature enough to appreciate the value of Unidesk desktop management software for Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), and asserts that Unidesk has significant revenue opportunities because of its ability to reduce storage, minimize complexity, cut operational costs, and maximize end-user personalization, regardless of whether customers choose VMware View™, Citrix® XenDesktop®, or other virtual desktop brokering solutions. The new report, “Unidesk Private Vendor Watchlist Profile: Unlocking the Full Potential of Desktop Virtualization” by Ian Song and Michael MacDonald, is available via free download at http://www.unidesk.com/idc-vendor-profile.
Unidesk was founded to address the shortcomings related to management, user experience, infrastructure, and cost requirements in the desktop virtualization market. Targeting customers in markets such as government, education, financial services, manufacturing, healthcare and more, Unidesk is suited to organizations with 100-10,000 desktops that have many applications to manage, as well as high concentrations of knowledge workers who need to customize their desktops. The report states that Unidesk is a “company to watch” because its desktop layering technology solves some major problems with centralized virtual desktops that the combination of point tools for profile management, application virtualization, and image management cannot: Unidesk allows users to fully customize desktops, even with user-installed applications, and also simplifies application delivery, OS patching, and desktop repair for IT.
According to IDC, “As the only solution that offers an end-to-end management and provisioning platform for persistent virtual desktops — encompassing the operating system, applications, and the user — and with three patents pending, Unidesk has the opportunity to leverage its complete, user-friendly, and cost-effective solution to simplify VDI and expand the market for itself and its partners.” Unidesk has relationships with all major VDI vendors, including VMware®, Citrix, Dell™ and VCE, as well as many VMware and Citrix VARs, which have helped Unidesk build a strong base of over 100 customers in its first year of product availability.
Unidesk provisions and manages Microsoft Windows® XP and Windows 7 virtual desktops. It currently requires VMware vSphere® or ESX as the hypervisor, although support for Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer is planned. Unidesk works with any connection broker but has the deepest integration with VMware View™ and Pano Logic's Pano Manager. Deep integration with Citrix XenDesktop® is currently in development and expected before the end of the year.
According to IDC, “With Unidesk's layering technology, customers can more effectively realize the operational savings to cost justify their CVD projects. And by satisfying more use cases and replacing more PCs, they can do so at an accelerated pace.
“Presently, Unidesk is enjoying rapid customer growth and increasing attention from bigger CVD vendors and systems integrators like Citrix, VMware, and Dell. Unidesk is starting to be included in many large deals with the aforementioned vendors and partners. The desktop virtualization market is now mature enough to appreciate the value Unidesk brings to the table. IDC believes that Unidesk will continue to achieve standalone success in the future if it continues to execute.”
Unidesk® Corporation (http://www.unidesk.com) enables customers to centralize more desktops on data center servers and realize the full potential of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI). Unidesk’s patent-pending desktop layering technology works with VDI access solutions such as VMware View™ and Citrix® XenDesktop® to sustain all desktop customizations for end users, while enabling IT to provision and patch all desktops from a single set of shared operating system and application layers. By creating uniquely personal, storage-efficient, and easy-to-manage virtual desktops on VMware infrastructure that can satisfy almost any use case, Unidesk desktop management software for VDI reduces desktop operations costs up to 30%, cuts VDI storage costs up to 70%, and fosters a more productive, agile workforce. Unidesk Corp. is a privately-held company with headquarters in Marlborough, Mass, USA.
