The Hospice Education Network and Weatherbee Resources Inc. announce a new Director of Education and Special Projects.

The Hospice Education Network (HEN), a leading online learning company for hospice and palliative care providers throughout the country, has named Dr. Joy Berger as its new Director of Education and Special Projects. She will serve in the same capacity for Weatherbee Resources, Inc., a sister company to HEN, which provides consulting services and products for the hospice industry.

Dr. Berger, who had previously been the Quality and Education Researcher and the Director of Education at Hosparus Inc., in Louisville, Kentucky, will be responsible for assessing the educational needs and challenges in the hospice and palliative care industry to ensure that the Hospice Education Network and Weatherbee Resources remain at the forefront in developing innovative solutions and services to most effectively meet those needs.

“Joy brings both a strong background in, and enthusiasm for, hospice and palliative care. She has already proven to be a wonderful addition to the HEN/Weatherbee team,“ states Heather Wilson, Principal and Founder of both companies. “She has over 25 years of experience as an educator, with 18 years devoted to clinical hospice care and education and clearly understands the learning needs of our customers and the challenges they face in their day to day practice,” Wilson continues. “Our goal, like most companies is to grow, but more importantly, we want to ensure we develop products and online learning experiences that ultimately will enhance practice at the bedside. We believe Joy will be invaluable in helping us achieve that goal.”

Dr. Berger who has a Doctor of Musical Arts (with an interdisciplinary major in psychology of religion), is also a Fellow in Thanatology from the Association for Death Education and Counseling. She was a past recipient of the National Heart of Hospice, Psychosocial /Spiritual Caregiver Award given by the National Council of Hospice and Palliative Care Professionals (NCHPP) and was a past chair of their Research/Academics/Education Section. A frequent speaker at national conferences, she is well recognized as an expert in interdisciplinary end-of-life care.
