"While Velocity is more efficient, easier to learn, and typically requires less code than XSLT, Cascade Server continues to support both transformation languages to give its customers maximum flexibility.” - Kat Liendgens, Hannon Hill COO
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) October 06, 2011
Hannon Hill Corporation has released a new version of the company's enterprise content management system Cascade Server 6.10, the premier CMS for higher education.
Cascade Server 6.10 introduces several new major features and improvements with a particular emphasis on upgrading Cascade Server’s support of Velocity, a template engine that is known for being both easy to learn and very efficient. Included in 6.10 is an upgrade to Velocity Engine 1.7 and a number of new tools added to the Velocity context that users will find beneficial when writing script formats within Cascade, including the Escape Tool, Math Tool, Loop Tool, Display Tool and Number Tool.
Hannon Hill Chief Operating Officer, Kat Liendgens commented, “While Velocity is more efficient, easier to learn, and typically requires less code than XSLT, Cascade Server continues to support both transformation languages to give its customers maximum flexibility even down to the region level on a page.”
Building on Cascade Server’s social media focus, 6.10 introduces a Facebook Connector, which creates new posts on a specified Facebook page when new Pages associated with the Connector are published in Cascade. The Twitter Connector, RSS Connector and Google Analytics Connector were added to the content management system in previous releases.
Another new feature in 6.10 is the ability to link across configuration types. With the addition of a Destinations field within Sites, it is possible for users to link to a particular configuration of a Page at a different URL than the Page linking to it. For example, users will now be able to link to the mobile version of a Page by using the Destinations field to give that Page a Web URL, so links to mobile configurations will be prepended with an appropriate mobile URL.
Other major improvements include a PDF engine upgrade; Tomcat 6 support, which is bundled with the installer and is the default version to be used with this and future releases of Cascade; a File editor upgrade, which reduces blurriness while editing in Firefox, Safari and Chrome; and a filter box for Users, Groups and Roles. The filter box allows users to quickly filter the Users, Groups and Roles that appear in the tables in Cascade by several categories, such as name and email address.
