In anticipation of celebrating its 65 year of racing Orange Show Speedway, the oldest race track in California, is preparing for a history making night. The 65 lap Street Stock Classic, presented by 1-800-LoanMart, is set for October 22nd. With a $15,000 main event purse, including $4,000 to the winner, the race is the richest Street Stock Race on record. With the hopes of having cars from every state on the West Coast, things are shaping up as an instant classic.
Racing at the Orange Show has been a spring board for some of the biggest racers in history. The likes of AJ Foyt, Parnelli Jones, and Bobby Allison all have won races at ¼ mile speedway since it opened in 1947. Even Hollywood has used the track as a proving ground, with Tom Cruise and Paul Newman having clicked off laps in the past.
In addition to the 65 lap Street Stock Classic, the track will be crowning three more California Speed Jams Champions in the Factory 4, Pony Stock, and Late Model divisions. And to cap the night off, the Orange Show Ragata will sail one last time to close the season, with a trailer drag race.
The night isn’t just about the racing. All eligible fans in attendance will automatically have a shot at winning $25,000. And not just one fan will have a shot at the money, but an unheard of 10 fans will take a shot to win the money. The Orange Show Speedway, California Event Management, and 1-800-LoanMart have teamed with The Second Harvest Food Bank (http://www.secondharvest.us) to challenge every fan to bring make a non-perishable food donation when they come to the track. In addition to the donations from the fans, 1-800-LoanMart will be matching a portion of the fan donation in the way of a check directly to The Second Harvest Food Bank. Every fan who makes a donation to the food bank will also get additional entries into the $25,000 contest. If that wasn’t enough, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be free gifts to the first 1,000 fans in attendance courtesy of 1-800-Get-Thin, and plenty of other special reminders on and off the track all night. So feel free to wear pink and support the cause.
The night is going to be one of the biggest in West Coast short track history, so mark your calendars. With multiple track champions, from multiple states prepared to take part in the event, it promises to be an unforgettable night. Tickets are only $15, with kids 12 under getting in for free. Gates will open at 5:00, on track autograph session will be at 6:00, and races will start at 7:00 sharp.
