GMA Consulting, the London-based IT consultancy specialising in the design, development and implementation of solutions using Microsoft technologies, is pleased to announce the launch of its new website which utilises Microsoft’s SharePoint 2010 collaboration application and is hosted on the Windows Azure cloud platform using GMA’s SharePoint Azure Accelerator capability.

GMA Consulting is a leader in advanced Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Windows Azure solutions. GMA is pleased to announce the launch of its new website which is built on SharePoint and hosted in Azure.

“By building our website using SharePoint and hosting it in Azure we are amply demonstrating the capability of our Azure Accelerator components which allows SharePoint to be hosted natively in Azure and to resume operation post an Azure re-imaging event. The website is a critical part of our business so by hosting it in Azure we really are putting our money where our mouth is.” said Ben Grey, a Director at GMA Consulting.

Grey continued “Cloud computing is a major trend in IT and we are delighted that we are at the cutting edge of exploiting this new technology. We believe that running our own website on SharePoint and hosting it in Azure will demonstrate the cost effectiveness and stability of cloud-based applications using these technologies.”

The costs of a SharePoint-based website or similar application hosted in Azure can be kept very low as the minimum requirements are:

  • SharePoint Foundation 2010 (free download)
  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Express Edition (free download)
  • Windows Azure small compute instance with 50gb of storage - approx £60-70 per month.
  • Windows External Connector License (only needed if authentication to the site is required) – approximately £2,000.
