Proceeds from local sales donated to augment total campaign contributions., Dominion Enterprises’ daily deal service providing registered consumers with discounts up to 90% off goods and services, has a new way to raise more money for its United Way campaign.

When anyone buys a United Way-designated deal on between now and November 11, 2011, Dominion Enterprises’ portion of the deal will be donated to the company’s total United Way contributions.

“Giving back to the community is a high priority for Dominion Enterprises, and the United Way campaign is our biggest drive to help local people and families,” said Scott Vollmer, DE’s United Way campaign chair for 2011. “We’re always looking for different ways to supplement our contributions, and the deals are a great way for people to help others while helping themselves. They are also a great way for local merchants to get more customers, so everybody wins.”

The DE United Way campaign began with the annual Day of Caring Effort when more than 150 Dominion Enterprises employees volunteered their skills and hard work in four different areas:

The Portsmouth team went to Parc Family Shelter, which assists the homeless—particularly families with children—through an array of homeless prevention and sheltered housing programs. For for the second year in a row, Dominion Enterprises volunteers painted the interior.

The Chesapeake team went to the Chesapeake Arboretum, which is considered “Nature’s Classroom” for the community. The team mulched, weeded, raked, mowed grass and planted.

The large Norfolk team broke up into several sub-groups. They worked at Haven House, an emergency shelter for homeless families. They also worked at Morgan Place, a transitional shelter for homeless families who are trying to find permanent housing, and at Good Mojo Thrift Store. The Norfolk team cut grass, string trimmed, raked, mulched, painted, repaired fences, repaired bicycles, re-roofed a shed, folded and sorted thousands of articles of clothing.

The Virginia Beach team went to EquiKids, which provides equine therapy for our special needs community. The team cut down trees, removed debris, loaded logs and trees into the chipper, installed 200 feet of pipe, washed and painted miles of fencing, weeded, landscaped, washed and waxed horse trailers, painted sheds, cleaned out horse stalls and myriad other tasks.
