Cappuccine Launches First Ever National Recipe Contest, Baristas across the Country Can Submit Original Recipes Beginning Oct. 7, in Honor of National Frappe Day

Cappuccine, a pioneer in the gourmet beverage market, an award-winning frappe mix manufacturer, and overall innovator in the frappe market, today announced the launch of its inaugural National Ultimate Frappe Recipe Contest on October 7, 2011, in honor of National Frappe Day.

Cappuccine, a pioneer in the gourmet beverage market, an award-winning frappe mix manufacturer, and overall innovator in the frappe market, today announced the launch of its inaugural National Ultimate Frappe Recipe Contest on October 7, 2011, in honor of National Frappe Day.

Cappuccine is asking baristas from across the U.S. to submit their tastiest ultimate frappe recipes. Contest rules apply, such as using a Cappuccine® frappe mix and up to nine additional ingredients. The nationwide contest will run through November 7, 2011, and includes prize packages of $1,000 prize for first place; $750 for second place; and $500 for third place. Winners will be announced on November 23, 2011, via the Cappuccine website and trade press.

Cappuccine has assembled an esteemed panel of judges including professional baristas and international trainers Sherri Johns and Danny Johns of WholeCup Coffee Consulting, LLC and Ultimate Barista Challenge®.

Lead judge, Sherri Johns has over 30 years of experience in the specialty coffee industry and is herself a champion barista. Sherri’s career highlights include facilitating the opening of 20 stores for Starbucks Coffee; coordinating Whole Foods Markets in-store roasting and espresso bar program; and being recognized by Travel & Leisure Magazine for serving the “Best Cappuccino in North America.” A seasoned author, Sherri recently wrote her first book, Coffee Café; and has also been a featured writer for Coffee Talk Magazine and Saveur Magazine, among others.    

Danny Johns, a former professional barista has served as Master of Ceremonies at several World Barista Championships (WBC) from 2001-2004, and has been instrumental with the implementation of barista championships internationally, as well as coordinating the first-ever USA regional and national competitions. Danny’s past Judges Certifications include the WBC, Tea & Coffee World Cup Asia, World Latte Art Championships and currently, the Ultimate Barista Challenge in all four challenge categories.

Judges Sherri and Danny Johns are joined by Klatch Coffee’s director of training and consulting, Heather Perry.

Perry has over 15 years of experience in the coffee industry. Most notably, Heather currently holds several titles including 2007 and 2003 U.S. Barista Champion, plus the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 Western Regional Champion. Perry has also appeared on numerous TV shows including “What’s Hot What’s Cool” on the Food Network and “BIG” on the Discovery Channel, where her name was put in the Guinness Book of World Records for building the world’s largest espresso machine. As “The Ultimate Barista,” she has since been challenged many times, including two head to head victories over other Ultimate Baristi, remaining undefeated.
